Cybercrime Blog: Florida Near Top in ID Theft

Florida ranks 3rd in the nation in the number of Identity Theft complaints filed, according to the FCC.

In 2008, there were 24,440 ID theft complaints in Florida, with close to 5,000 complaints stemming from credit card fraud.

Other ID theft complaints:
Government documents or benefits fraud: 4,466
Bank fraud: 3,135
Employment-related fraud: 2,413
Phone or utilities fraud: 2,327
Loan Fraud: 1,010

Judges posing as Jurists in Broward: 98

The states reporting the most complaints are Arizona, California, and Florida, which coincide with the states reporting the highest rates of foreclosure.

Well, if anyone wants my credit cards now, good luck to them. Maybe they can get the bank to give them more credit then I can. This reminds me of the great Rodney Dangerfield joke, that a thief stole his wife's credit card, but "I'm not calling it in. He is spending less than she did..."
